Description

ABSTRACT: Multiferroics with strong magnetoelectric coupling, which allow their application in multifunctional devices due to electric-field-tunable magnetism and magnetic-field-controlled ferroelectricity, are of great interest. Notable among these are BaRFeO4 materials (where R are rare-earth elements), with BaYFeO4 being thoroughly studied and yielding important results. In this work, we investigate the effect of Yb-doping on the physical properties of BaYFeO4 material. The BaY1-xYbxFeO4 (x = 0, 0.125, 0.250, 0.375, 0.500, 1) system was fabricated by the solid-state reaction method. This is an isostructural system with an orthorhombic structure belonging to the Pnma symmetry group. The effect of Yb-doping on the crystal structure and surface morphology of BaY1-xYbxFeO4 has been investigated in detail.
