The aim of the study is to characterize the profiles of work-related biological material exposure incidents recorded in the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) between 2015 and 2019, and to identify patterns associated with these events.

Objective: To identify demographic characteristics, occupational conditions, and types of exposure related to work-related biological material incidents in Brazil.

Key Findings:

Nursing professionals were the most affected group (70.9%).

Three distinct occupational clusters were identified:
-
Cluster 1: Cleaning and maintenance workers with low educational attainment, a predominance of males, and low hepatitis B vaccination coverage.

Cluster 2: Nursing professionals with high vaccination rates, a predominance of females, and incidents primarily associated with medication administration.

Cluster 3: Dentistry and medical professionals with higher educational levels and consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
