Data and metadata standards for web publication of research data

Purpose, scope and objectives This BoF will discuss the state of data and metadata management across research disciplines in the context of web publication. Participants will gain clarity on the challenges faced in successfully publishing datasets on the web in accordance with FAIR principles and have the opportunity to discuss possible solutions. Questions to be discussed include: - What data formats do you work with? - What issues do you face in working with and publishing data in your area? - Are there any data standards or efforts at standardisation ongoing? - How is metadata handled? - How is provenance handled? Audience Researchers, software engineers and other data users who are interested in publishing datasets on the web. Structure - Short introduction to provide context and seed discussion with key questions - Small breakout groups to discuss questions and allow equal participation - Groups report findings after breakout discussions - Open floor discussion to conclude Outcomes - Identify common issues facing researchers publishing data on the web - Identify common metadata management and provenance tracking needs across research fields - Online document summarising key points raised during the session shared with participants
