IMPACT OF WORK AND LIFE SATISFACTION ON WORK PERFORMANCE AT SEDENTARY WORKPLACE

Authors/Creators

Description

Purpose: The purpose of this prospective research is to explore the influence of both life satisfaction and job satisfaction on the work performance of employees in sedentary jobs. The study aims to identify the potential improvements in work performance when employers and employees focus on increasing employee satisfaction.

Methodology: The research utilized three validated questionnaires to assess various factors. The self-assessment performance scores were divided into two groups based on the mean value: those with lower self-assessment scores were categorized as less successful, and vice versa. Pearson’s and Spearman’s correlations were calculated between all variables, and both simple and multiple regression analyses were performed to explore the relationships and effects.

Results and Conclusions: The findings indicated that job performance was statistically significantly correlated with both life satisfaction and job satisfaction. Specifically, life satisfaction (rho = 0.237) and job satisfaction (rho = 0.348) showed positive correlations with job performance. The regression analysis revealed that life satisfaction explained 12.5% of the variance in job performance. For each additional point of life satisfaction, job performance increased by 0.400 points, while each additional point of job satisfaction increased job performance by 0.204 points. These results show that improvements in employee satisfaction—both with life and work—are associated with significant improvements in job performance, with a more than 20% increase in performance for the most satisfied employees compared to the least satisfied.

Research Limitations: The research is based on self-assessment, which may introduce subjective bias in the results. Future research should incorporate additional objective measures of performance. Moreover, the study was limited to sedentary jobs, so findings may not be directly applicable to other types of work environments.

Practical and/or Social Implications: The study emphasizes the importance of employee satisfaction as a key factor in improving work performance. Organizations should focus on enhancing both life and job satisfaction to increase productivity. This has significant implications for business practices, as even small improvements in employee satisfaction can lead to substantial gains in performance.

Originality: This research contributes original insights into the relationship between employee satisfaction and performance in sedentary job environments. It highlights the potential benefits of focusing on employee satisfaction to enhance productivity and offers a framework for future research on this topic. Given the increasing trend of sedentary jobs, this study is highly relevant for future business and personnel decisions.
