This dataset and accompanying survey instrument originate from a research study investigating depression and functional impairment among academic staff in Ukrainian higher education institutions during wartime). The study explores the severity of depressive symptoms using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and examines how gender, migration status, and institutional relocation influence mental health outcomes.
The dataset (depression.xlsx) includes anonymized responses from 429 academic staff members collected between December 2023 and February 2024. The survey instrument (Depression_Survey_Ukraine_Academics.docx) contains the full questionnaire in English, including socio-demographic questions, the PHQ-9 scale, and items on perceptions of institutional mental health support.
This research aims to provide empirical evidence to inform policy development and mental health interventions in higher education settings affected by armed conflict.
Ethical approval was granted by the Ethics Committee of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University (Protocol No. 12/2023). Participation was anonymous and voluntary, with informed consent obtained from all participants.
