Description

This article revisits and expands a theoretical framework for architectural research originally developed in the early 2010s, in the context of emerging doctoral programmes and institutional recognition of design-led research.
The text critically examines the foundations and typologies of research in architecture, articulating disciplinary knowledge and practice-based inquiry. Through a reassessment of classical epistemologies (Bachelard, Popper, Kuhn) in light of contemporary theoretical paradigms (post-structuralism, onto-epistemologies, speculative
realism), the article defends the project as a legitimate mode of knowledge production. It also addresses key issues such as validation, the role of drawing as argument, and the articulation of visual, spatial, and narrative components in the dissemination of research results. This revised edition affirms architecture as a field of reflective, ethical, and operational inquiry, contributing to the redefinition of research practices in the twenty-first century.
