Description
Abstract
This study assessed the first aid competence of Grade 11 students at Rizal National Science High School before and after undergoing a structured first aid training program. The research aimed to determine the effectiveness of the training in improving students' knowledge, skills, and confidence in administering first aid. A purposive sampling method was used to select 50 participants who voluntarily took part in the study. Structured questionnaires were administered before and after the training to measure participants' competence. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation, and a paired t-test was conducted to determine any significant differences in competence levels. Ethical considerations such as informed consent and confidentiality were strictly observed throughout the study.
The results indicated a significant improvement in students' first aid knowledge, skills, and confidence after completing the training. The findings highlighted the importance of integrating first aid education into the school curriculum to enhance students’ preparedness in handling medical emergencies. Based on these results, it is recommended that refresher courses and practical simulations be conducted regularly to ensure long-term retention of first aid skills. Additionally, involving teachers and school personnel in first aid training can further strengthen the overall emergency response capacity of the school.
To maximize the impact of this research, the findings will be disseminated through school-wide presentations, faculty meetings, and educational forums. A proposal will be submitted to integrate first aid training into the school's health and safety programs. Furthermore, REACH CLUB will facilitate and conduct more relevant training to sustain learning and promote a culture of safety among students. Advocacy efforts will also be made to encourage other schools to adopt similar training programs, ensuring that more students are equipped with essential life-saving skills.
