Description

Allamanda blanchetii Candolle (1844: 319).

Type:— BRAZIL. Bahia: Serra da Jacobina, s.d., Blanchet 2695 (holotype, G-DC!; isotypes B [destroyed, photo F neg. 1381!], BM!, G!, NY! [photo, INB!], P! [photo, INB!]). Figs. 3A, 3E.

Allamanda violacea Gardner & Fielding (1844: 41). Type:— BRAZIL. Piauí: Bôa Esperança, February 1839, Gardner 2230 (holotype, BM!; isotypes GH, K! [2 sheets]).

Distribution: Native to NE Brazil, cultivated in Colombia.

Observations:— Allamanda blanchetii can be distinguished by its lilac or purple corollas and sessile leaves. Although it is cultivated everywhere in the country, few herbarium collections are known.

Representative specimens examined:— COLOMBIA. Bolivar: Cartagena, November 2002 (fl), Morales 17103 (HUA!, INB!).
