Make your research FAIR - Geochemical data

Description

The FAIR Principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) are guidelines designed to improve the management and use of scientific data, ensuring they are easy to find, accessible to all, compatible with other data, and reusable in various contexts. In the field of Geology and Earth Sciences, these principles should be applied throughout all phases of scientific research, from sample collection to publication of results in scientific journals.

This document provides guidance on geochemical data management within the framework of the FAIR principles. It outlines the key steps to ensure the traceability, accessibility, and reusability of data generated in geochemistry laboratories, including:

  • Selection or creation of analytical methods and assignment of the corresponding DOI.
  • Generation of datasets in durable formats linked to sample IGSNs.
  • Storage of data in trusted repositories with standardized metadata.
  • Creation of DOIs for each dataset and their proper citation in scientific publications.
