Description
Table 1. Animals collected in temporary pools, Ulster and Dutchess counties, New York, 2021–2022. Taxa indicated by a double asterisk (**) are discussed further in the text. Species identifications were made, where feasible, using the works listed next to the appropriate taxon, general works (Usinger 1973; Bilger 1986; Pennak 1989; Peckarsky et al. 1990; Colburn 2004), or by consultation with an expert in the group (Oligochaeta, Hirudinea). Presence in waters with different hydroperiods (using pool volume as a surrogate) is indicated by an ‘X’ under ephemeral (Eph), temporary (Tmp), or semipermanent (Spm) water bodies. Life history stage (LH) is eggs (E), larvae (L), pupae (P), juveniles (J), or adults (A). Finally, use of the water bodies (U) indicates whether the taxon is resident (R) or migratory (M).
