PANGAEA Geophysics Web Map & Feature Service - Standard Operating Procedures visualizing geophysical data archived in PANGAEA - Data Publisher for Earth & Environmental Data

Description

Standardized geophysical data archiving and publishing at PANGAEA - Data Publisher for Earth & Environmental Data complies with the FAIR Data Principles (Wilkinson et al., 2016). During standardized data curation at PANGAEA, specific data is semi-automatically processed and included in a PANGAEA service tool. The PANGAEA Geophysics Web Map Service (WMS) & PANGAEA Geophysics Web Feature Service (WFS) allows map-based (meta-)data search and exploration, providing an additional accessibility beyond the FAIR Data Principles requirements. Both services (WMS & WFS) are a common standardized geospatial exchange internet protocol (interface) and can be used for web page frontend applications or harvested by local geoinformation systems. Major technical aspects, development background and usage requirements are addressed and discussed in this document, covering the development state until April 23th, 2025.
