Description
This report (IRISCC Deliverable D6.7) details the creation and operational deployment of an interoperable Gateway between the IS-ENES Virtual Research Environment (VRE) and the central IRISCC VRE platform. This Gateway is a crucial link between two infrastructures, designed to streamline the access and processing of large climate model datasets in support of the IRISCC demonstrators that will be developed and deployed on the IRISCC VRE, powered by D4Science.
The IS-ENES VRE offers access to petabytes of climate model data from the WCRP Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP). It also provides specialized processing tools tailored for in-depth climate data analysis. The IRISCC VRE, powered by D4Science, enhances this by providing collaborative tools, computational resources, and interoperability features that benefit the entire IRISCC ecosystem. By connecting these infrastructures, the Gateway merges their strengths, creating a unified environment that enhances the capabilities of both platforms.
Key features of this Gateway include:
● Federated Authentication: A unified system that integrates the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) Authentication and Authorisation Infrastructure (AAI) used by IS-ENES with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Federated AAI supported by D4Science. This enables a seamless Single Sign-On (SSO) experience across both environments.
● Efficient Data Transfer: Robust mechanisms for transferring pre-processed climate data from IS-ENES to the IRISCC VRE, designed to handle large datasets while ensuring data integrity.
● Unified Provenance Management: Integrated provenance tracking to create detailed metadata records, documenting the complete data journey and processing history.
● Seamless Service Integration: Direct access to IS-ENES services within the IRISCC VRE, including CMIP data access and interactive data processing via JupyterHub.
This Gateway directly supports the IRISCC demonstrators (Project's Work Package 4) by giving them easy access to important climate model data and processing tools.
