Description

This dataset includes TMY files for all municipalities in Norway, produced in conjunction with the Norwegian standard NS 3031:2025 Energy performance of buildings Calculation of energy and power demand. The files are based on CERRA data from 1991-2020, and produces using a TMY3 type methodology, where the FS weighing is skewed towards temperatures during the winter months (October to March).  The files represents a statistically typical year meant for energy calculations of buildings, and are therefore not suited for evaluating extreme conditions.

The repository contains:

  • EPW-files - zipped collection of .epw-files
    • The most common file format for climate data for energy simulations applicable to most programs
  • CSV-Files - zipped collections of .csv files
    • Climate data on comma separated format as well as Excel for easy access
    • This format includes all the neccesary data for energy calculations, but less data than the EPW files.
    • File headers are in Norwegian
  • NetCDF-files - a zipped collections of .nc files
    • one for each location
  • Datasheets - a zip files of individual datasheets
    • A collection of datasheets containing a comparison of TMYs with the data source as well as referance data
    • The datasheets contain Norwegian text
  • Overview of Error metrics - ZIP files containing plots of error metrics
    • Error metrics mapped to a map of Norway, for visualization purposes
  • Changelog - a txt file
    • a overview of changes in the dataset since 1.0

The contents of the repository is produced by The Norwegian Meteorological Office (MET) and The Norwegian University og Life Science (NMBU), Department of Building- and Environmental Technology.

The funding for the project was provided in equal parts by Norwegian Building Authority (Direktoratet for byggkvalitet), ENOVA and the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE).

The data is provided 'as is', without warranty of any kind, express or implied. In no event shall the authors be liable for any claim, damages or other liability.
