Archiving & Publishing Qualitative Data
Authors/Creators
Description
Workshop within the "Qualitative Open Science in Practice" section of the "Symposium: qualitative open science - challenges, opportunities, tensions & synergies" held on March 28th at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. The event was funded by Open Science NL.
Workshop abstract:
In this workshop, we will discuss the workflow of archiving and publishing qualitative data from a repository perspective. Ricarda Braukmann, Data Station Manager at DANS, will outline how qualitative data can be published in the DANS Data Station Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH). The Data Station SSH is a CoreTrustSeal-certified trustworthy digital repository which (Dutch) researchers can use to make their data available for reuse. In this workshop, we will follow the Guide on Making Qualitative Data Reusable providing guidance for each step of the research life cycle to aid the reusability of qualitative data. Participants will be encouraged to use the guide and accompanying decision trees to assess the reusability of their own qualitative data project. We will in particular focus on the archiving and publishing of qualitative data taking the DANS Data Station SSH as an example. We will discuss the options to publish data under open and restricted access and how to decide which option is best suited for a given project. The workshop will contain examples of datasets published in the Data Station SSH and there will be ample opportunity for participants to ask questions related to their own projects.
