Integration of Environmental Accounting and Blockchain: Achieving Transparency and Accountability in Sustainable Practices

Description

Abstract

This study explores the application of blockchain technology in the environmental accounting practices of a company committed to sustainability. Using a qualitative approach, the study collected data through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation analysis. Findings indicate that despite a basic understanding of blockchain, there is still variation in the level of knowledge among employees. Potential benefits of blockchain adoption include increased transparency, data accuracy, and stakeholder trust. However, challenges such as limited IT infrastructure, lack of reporting standards, and implementation costs are significant barriers. Recommendations for the company include developing training programs, evaluating infrastructure, collaborating on reporting standards, and developing detailed implementation plans. With these steps, companies can leverage blockchain technology to improve environmental accounting practices, thereby supporting greater sustainability goals in the waste management and renewable energy industries. This study is expected to make a significant contribution to the development of more sustainable and responsible accounting practices.
