Description

This dataset repository serves as the official MoFuSS repository utilized by the Methodological Panel (MP) of the UNFCCC to formulate recommendations to the Executive Board regarding the adoption of default fNRB values for cookstove methodologies.

Values can be consulted interactively in the MoFuSS webpage

Please read this documentation carefully.

All results are presented as the mean and standard error (SE) of the Monte Carlo simulation, with n representing the number of Monte Carlo realizations (i.e., the total number of model runs, 30 in this case).

Folder structure for current results and eventual revisions

Results are organized by their format: 1) tables, 2) vector layers, and 3) raster layers. Following, we describe the organization of variables for each of these three types

Tables

All tables are in comma-separated values (.csv) format and they basically show summary results for different administrative disaggregations: by country (adm0), by first administrative level (adm1), and by second or third administrative level (adm2).

Within each of these two groups, with and without uncertainty, three variables are reported:

  1. Non-Renewable Biomass (NRB): representing the total amount of woody biomass in any given period that was lost from the original stock due to unsustainable harvesting for energy purposes, in tonnes of air dried biomass;
  2. Woody biomass harvest (Harv): representing the total harvest of wood for fuelwood and charcoal in any given period in tonnes of air dried biomass;
  3. Fraction of Non-Renewable Biomass (fNRB): representing the ratio among these two variables for any given period, in percentage.

Vector layers

Data in vector layers is essentially the same as .csv tables, with the only difference that they can be easily displayed in a Geographic Information System. All three administrative levels are saved within a single geopackage file.

Note that when the file ends in “_simp”, it means that all polygons were simplified to a certain extent in order to make files lighter and easier to manipulate and display, as compared to the original ones.

Raster layers

As mentioned in the project report submitted to UNFCCC, all MoFuSS results are first produced as raster layers, before any aggregation by administrative units. The raster layers shared in the project output folder, which represent only a handful of MoFuSS outcomes, have all a resolution of 1000 meters, and their projected coordinate system is WGS 84 / World Mercator (EPSG:3395). They all share the same origin and extent.

  1. Non-Renewable Biomass (NRB):Net loss of aboveground biomass in tDM per km2 for the entire simulation period for the first Monte Carlo realization. Pixels that experienced a net growth or no change are rendered as zero.
  2. Woody biomass harvest (Harv): Woody biomass harvested and/or collected in tDM per km2 for the entire simulation period.
