A Lexico-Semantic Analysis of Selected Nigerian English Terms.
Description
Abstract: This study presents a lexico-semantic analysis of selected lexical items of Nigerian English. The terms were drawn mainly from broadcast and social media platforms. The study aims to explore the meanings, usage patterns and cultural associations of these lexical items to gain insights into their semantic properties and their contribution to the Nigerian English lexicon. The study seeks to shed light on their meanings, usage patterns and cultural associations across different media platforms. The study seeks to add to the growing body of knowledge on how language is used in different contexts and further show how it can vary based on social factors such as region, gender and socio-economic status. Thus, the study contributes to a deeper understanding of some features as well as variations in Nigerian English. While existing research provides valuable insights into various aspects of Nigerian English, there remains a need for an understanding of its intricate meanings and nuanced variations. The theoretical framework adopted in this study is conceptual semantics.
