Dataset used for : Diversifying agriculture to enhance arthropod-driven ecosystem services: what kind of management matters?

Description

This dataset gather data related to invertebrates and crop diversification practices from 449 published studies.

Files contain a Read me with details of the columns (readme.csv), the main dataset (Seimandi_Corda_etal_metaanalysis_dataset.csv) with NA replaced by "unspecified" and the list of the published studies used (Table S1 (list of studies).xlsx).

Method:

The dataset was created based on a litterature search made in Wed of Science (Core Collection) on the 11/06/24 from which 427 studies were isolated. These studies present data collected in a context of agricultural plant diversification on the abundance of arthropods (herbivores, predators, parasitoids, pollinators), and/or on the provision of services (predation, parasitism, pollination) and disservices (herbivory) performed by arthropods. The diversification practices we considered were: agroforestry, the addition of flower resources, intercropping, and the maintenance of SNH proximate to the crop. This dataset was supplemented with 22 articles obtained from the reference lists of other published meta-analyses conducted on agricultural diversification (Wan et al. 2020, Lichtenber et al. 2017, Zamorano et al. 2020, Albrecht et al. 2020, Letourneau et al. 2011). Each article was then inspected and data extracted from text, figures, tables, and supporting materials. Criteria were then applied to remove redundant values belonging to the same article. For each observation the diversification practice used as well as information to characterise how the practice was implemented (e.g. management factors) were also recorded.
