Description

Henri Descimon was born in Nogent-sur-Marne on 19 February 1934 and died on 1 January 2025 in Marseille. His scientific career was particularly long, from his first publication in 1953 - when he was 19 - to his last one seventy years later. To help entomologists find Henri Descimon's publications, a chronological list is presented here. This list was written by Henri Descimon himself in 2021 and updated in January 2025.

Some of his publications are available online on Hal web site (https://hal.science/), Persée web site (https://www.persee.fr/) or on Researchgate (https://www.researchgate.net/).

His thesis, defended in 1969, was scanned and published on Hal in 2022 (https://hal.science/tel-03548036). In this thesis, Henri Descimon described in great detail his methods for breeding Pieridae, which he did not go into much detail elsewhere, and which he used throughout his life, both for Pieridae and for the Parnassius butterflies he studied later. The sections on the identification and biosynthesis of pterins and on pigmentation variation in Pieridae, innovative for their time, are now mainly of historical interest.

A list of the species named in honor of Henri Descimon is included as an appendix.
