Description

Properties and examples of r mode oscillations in rotating stars  (normal modes of global Rossby waves) are discussed. R modes seems to be mainly excited mechanically by the flow caused by a spot, tidal forces, mass-loss, or accretion. Signatures of r modes can be identified in some of the Fourier spectra of gamma Dor stars, chemically peculiar stars, eclipsing binary stars,  Be stars, or accreting white dwarfs.
