Normal Texture Maps of Planets and Moons of the Solar System

  • 1. ROR icon Politecnico di Milano

Description

This dataset contains normal maps of the surface of planets, moons and dwarf planets of the solar system encoded as RGB images. These maps can be used to generate synthetic images in physical-based render engines, such as ABRAM or Blender.

The maps were obtained processing available open-source displacement maps of the corresponding bodies with algorithms based on plane fitting or mean of the normals of the neighbouring triangles.

They are provided in Normal Body Map (NBM) format or Normal Local Map (NLM) format depending on the frame of reference the vectors are defined (body-fixed or south-east-upward local).

Higher-resolution of these maps are available upon request to the author.
