Description
This book is one of the outcomes of the “Mapping for Recreation with a Location-Based Game” (2024) project, co-designed with and for temporarily displaced youth from Ukraine. It builds upon the Mapping for Recreation (2023) initiative and aims to explore how displaced children perceive and experience recreational spaces and urban nature in their new environments, while strengthening their connection to place and nature. Conducted in the Twente region of the Netherlands, this project was led by Dr. Ekaterina Egorova, a geographic citizen science researcher at the University of Twente, and involved children from six cities (Almelo, Holten, Rijssen, Tubbergen, Boekelo, and Denekamp). This book was created jointly with children and serves as a testament to the fact that art has a place in every citizen science campaign. By blending scientific observation with creative expression, it showcases how exploration and creativity go hand in hand. Funding: The “Mapping for Recreation Through a Location-Based Game” project was supported by the IMPETUS Project. We are part of the 2nd call. Impetus is funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement number 101058677.
