Phase-Space Catalog of Galactic Isolated Black Holes

Description

Database for a model of Galactic distribution of isolated black holes, including natal kicks and orbit calculation following the Galactic potential (Tsuna+18, MNRAS, 477, 791).
File X_distribution.txt (X=[25,50,100,200,300,400]) indicates a model where the kick is assumed to be an isotropic Maxwellian distribution with average speed of X km/s.

The seven columns indicate the location in phase space in cylindrical coordinates.

  • Col 1-3: R [kpc], theta [rad], z [kpc],
  • Col 4-6: v_r [km/s], v_th [km/s], v_z [km/s]
  • Col 7: the probability of that BH to exist (which reflects the Maxwellian distribution of the kick speed). Summing up this column for all the BHs lead to 1.

Note: When one plots the distribution for high kick cases, one can see a cluster at around 100 kpc from the Galactic center. This is because the code stops orbit integration when the BH has reached this distance (assuming it just escapes the Galaxy). While we include them in the catalog for completeness, one should remove these BHs when conducting any analysis, e.g. by updating the location of ones beyond ~80kpc away to infinity.
