Modelling the Introduction of Electric Mobility and the Implementation of New Power Generation Sources: The Case of Ecuador
Authors/Creators
Description
Ecuador has implemented plans to mitigate climate change, including PLANMICC, which aims to reduce 10 million tons of CO₂ equivalent by 2050. This report analyzes scenarios in the electricity sector with the incorporation of electric mobility, increased demand, and new energy sources, evaluating three scenarios with OSeMOSYS: Base, Solar Energy (SE), and Battery Storage (BS). While the Base scenario relies entirely on hydropower, the SE scenario introduces solar energy, and the BS scenario reduces hydropower dependency, lowers emissions, and saves costs. It is concluded that a 100% renewable energy matrix is feasible with appropriate backup systems.
