Abstract

The basic principle of solar thermal energy is to absorb sunlight and convert it into heat. This is usually achieved through solar collectors designed to capture and concentrate solar radiation. These collectors are equipped with materials with high thermal conductivity and are often coated with selective surfaces to maximize heat absorption while minimizing heat loss. The absorbed heat is then transferred to a working fluid such as water or antifreeze, which is circulated through the system to distribute the heat to where it is needed.

History and development of solar thermal energy. The use of solar thermal energy dates back to ancient times, when people used simple methods to harness the sun's heat for various purposes. However, significant advances in solar thermal technology began in the 20th century. Early innovations included the development of flat-plate collectors and evacuated tube collectors, which significantly improved the efficiency of solar thermal systems. Today, modern solar thermal systems incorporate advanced materials, improved designs, and sophisticated control systems to optimize heat capture and use.
