KH. Hasyim Asy'ari: Muhaddith Nusantara

No doubt, Hasyim Asy’ari was known as the one of the most prominent scholar in Indonesia. Beside his role in Indonesia’s independence, his contribution on developing the Islamic education also colors the history of this country through his Pondok Pesantren Tebuireng. As one of the chain of Islamic scholars’ network, he connected path of the Islamic sciences between the Scholars of Nusantara and Middle East. Based on its fact, this article will study his thought on hadith science through his works. This study is important because he has chains of transmition which linked him to the authors of al-Sahihayn and al-Muwatta’ from Mahfuz Tremas. Moreover, until the present time, Pesantren Tebuireng still organize the study of al-Sahihayn in the last Sha‘ban till the last Ramadan. To analyze his thought, here, I will use some of his works which probably represented his method on hadith studies. However, not all of his thought will be covered in this article.
