CoPoHiM (Corpus de Poesía Hispanomagrebí | Corpus of Hispanophone-Maghrebi Poetry): First Stage (2024-2025)
Authors/Creators
Description
Intercultural fluxes between Europe and North Africa can generate hybrid artworks. A compelling illustration of this possibility is the Hispanophone-Maghrebi literature, which is written not only by diasporic authors but also by those residing in some Maghreb countries (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia). Hence, this literature could be classified into two main areas: the Maghreb area (predominantly in Morocco) and the western area (primarily centered in Spain).
When studying this type of poetry, it is crucial to acknowledge its modest reach and limited dissemination, largely due to publishing constraints, which force authors to resort to self-publishing. Hispano-Maghrebi poetry finds itself on the periphery, occupying a marginalized position not only within Hispanic Literature but also within the national literary landscapes of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. For this reason, I have promoted CoPoHiM (Corpus de Poesía Hispanomagrebí | Corpus of Hispanophone-Maghrebi Poetry), a project structured in two stages aimed at synthesising the entire corpus of Hispanophone-Maghrebi poetic production. These are the results of the first stage (2024-2025), conducted in Spanish. Future findings will be presented in English and Arabic. The dataset includes basic information on 88 Hispanophone-Maghrebi poetry books: author (autor), title of the book (título), year (año), publishing house (editorial), "biographic attribution" (adscripción vital), country of publication (país de edición) and genre (género).
