A survey of stellar winds for young, Sun-like stars
Description
The Starwinds project at the University of Southern Queensland intends to produce the largest atlas of three-dimensional wind maps of young, Sun-like stars to date. Spectropolarimetric observations of young, Sun-like stars permit the reconstruction of the stellar surface magnetic field through Zeeman-Doppler imaging. Three-dimensional numerical simulations can then be used to produce stellar wind maps covering the stellar corona and astrosphere. The characteristics of the wind determines the rate of stellar spin down. Powerful stellar winds may adversely affect planetary habitability.
