Climate Change Hashtags and Keywords on Twitter: A Structured Dataset for Social Media Discourse Analysis

Description

This dataset contains climate change-related hashtags and keywords collected from Twitter, categorized into three main groups:

  1. Supportive & Awareness Efforts – Includes hashtags promoting climate action, sustainability, and awareness campaigns.
  2. Critical & Skeptical Approach – Consists of hashtags used to express skepticism, criticism, or opposition to climate change narratives.
  3. Bipartisan Climate Hashtags – Neutral terms related to climate debates, policy discussions, and scientific research.

Both hashtagged terms (e.g., #Klimaatverandering) and non-hashtagged keywords (e.g., klimaatverandering) were collected to ensure comprehensive coverage of climate discourse on social media. The keyword "klimaat" (Dutch for "climate") was included to capture broader discussions, but it also retrieved tweets unrelated to climate change, such as werkklimaat (work environment) and onderwijsklimaat (education climate). A data cleaning process was implemented to remove ambiguous or irrelevant terms, ensuring accuracy in the dataset.

This dataset is useful for researchers analyzing climate discourse, social media engagement, sentiment trends, and environmental communication strategies.
