Diagnosis. Hairs on posterior terga strongly orange, tergal fasciae with rows (Fig. 3K, Fig. 9B), as on H. vulcanica sp. nov. (Fig. 33B); punctation on T3 small (third of DOP as on scutum), sparse (2.5 times DOP) and shallow (Fig. 3K), on males is slightly denser and coarser but remain small; head and mesosoma with a few long, white, thin, plumose hairs, scattered along giving untidy appearance. Male: paraocular area with short, white, thin, plumose hairs, as well in clypeus (Fig. 9A), denser on apical margin; hypostomal area and fore tarsal segments with long, white, dense plumose hairs; antennae brown, sometimes lighter ventrally; S1 produced to median angle (Fig. 2 Cb), in profile, with soft ventral angle on one third of distance from apex to base (Fig. 2 Ca); posterior margin of S5 with two rectangular lobes, with one line of simple hairs on top, and medially with two tufts of simple, sometimes hooked, differently sized hairs, directed inward (Fig. 9E); S6 produced to right-angled apex, with two subapical tufts with few short, curved, thin hairs (Fig. 9F). Female: mandible with carinae subparallel without tubercle; clypeus with shallow emargination on one half of apical margin, and two small, rounded tubercles (Fig. 9C).

Distribution. This species is the most common in the subgenus and has the widest distribution, from northern Mexico in Chihuahua to Costa Rica, along the Pacific Lowlands biogeographic province and the Mexican Transition Zone (Morrone et al. 2022) (Fig. 8). Altitudinal range: 70–2258 m.

Comments. This species presents variation on density of hairs of clypeus in males, as well as size of tubercles on apical margin of clypeus in females. It is one of three species with orange hairs on posterior terga, but the only small one. There are some female specimens from Morelos, Mexico with outer surface of mandible with a tuberclelike strong longitudinal elevation at base of outer ridge, and punctation on T3 slightly dense and coarsely, that we couldn’t place, as there are males from this locality that correspond to H. bruneri.
