The women of the Sangam Age excelled in love and bravery. Sangam Poems depicts the culture and civilization of the Tamils. The longing of the leader for the beloved in the Akathinai and the words of the leader to the heart of the beloved are the expression of the relationship of husband and wife towards the family. If every human being lives with great love in his heart, this world will be blessed. But many people live with anger, saying lies, jealousy and deceit. The woman is the victim of every change in the society. Women have to carry the burden of the family and avoid the luxuries of society. In Sangam times, Chaste women are from a virtuous family, hospitable, educated and prosperous. Women who are born in the family of prostitutes like Kanikaiyars and Kamakathiyars want to see a change in their lives. Sangam life portrays it. The Sangam literature is said to be a mirror of time depicting the life ethics of the ancient Tamil people. That is why Sangam literature is considered as the two eyes of the Tamils. In the Sangam age, women were intelligent advised the kings and possessed the chief virtue of hospitality. They have dedicated themselves to this world in various stages such as nurse, daughter, wife and friend. A woman is judged in society by the place or environment in which she lives. Hence, this paper explains the life of women in Sangam literature.
