Assessment of Quality of Antenatal Care Services in Primary Healthcare Center in Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State

This study examined the quality of antenatal care services at a primary healthcare center in Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The study utilizes a descriptive cross-sectional research design. The participants in this study included all the women who visit the antenatal clinic at the Primary Healthcare Center in Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The study's target population consists of 117 women, reflecting the total number of women who visited the antenatal clinic from January to June 2024, as provided by the administrative department of the primary health center. The formula above yields a sample size of 91 respondents. The study employed a non-probability convenience sampling method, which was appropriate for its objectives. This approach entailed collecting representative data from respondents who are available, reachable, and willing to take part. In this study, the researcher developed and utilized self-structured questionnaires to gather data. The tool used in this study underwent a process of face validation. Face validation is suitable for questionnaires as it provides an assessment of whether an instrument seems to measure its intended content at first glance. Descriptive statistics were employed to present the data from Sections A, B, and C. The analysis included tools like frequency distribution tables, percentages, means, and standard deviations to describe the obtained data. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations were made that There should be a periodic assessment of quality of antenatal care as this will help for continuous improvement in service delivery especially looking at quality from the clients’ perspectives. The authority should employ workers in the primary health centres especially the lower cadre of staff that provide allied services in the centre like personnel and pharmacy technician.
