D4.4.1.1 Implementation of Federated Access
Description
This deliverable, part of the NFDI4Energy project under TA4: FAIR Data for Energy Systems Research, focuses on implementing federated search capabilities within the Leibniz Data Manager (LDM). Specifically, it details the deployment aspects of T4.4.1 Federated Architecture for Federated Search and T4.4.2 Adapting LDM to Provide a Metadata Registry. The federated access, branded as FedORKG within the LDM, enables users to perform SPARQL queries across a federation of Open Research Knowledge Graphs (ORKGs). To alleviate the complexity associated with forming SPARQL queries — especially concerning various ontologies — FedORKG incorporates an experimental question answering system, LDMAsk, which leverages Large Language Models to translate natural language questions into SPARQL queries for execution across the federated ORKGs.
Currently, the federation includes the LDM KG and the ORKG, with future plans to integrate additional KGs like DBpedia, the Open Energy Knowledge Graph (OEKG), and Wikidata. Managed by the federated query engine DeTrusty, the FedORKG system is accessible via the NFDI4Energy LDM instance. While the deliverable outlines the deployment of a prototype of the federated search feature, it refers readers to deliverable D4.4.1.2 for an extensive examination of the underlying architecture and technical processes. Relevant source code is available on GitHub, underscoring the open-access nature of this project and its commitment to fostering comprehensive data discovery.
