Database for biofuels and biogenic effluent gases production and good CUS practices

The inventory database for biogenic gases production from the biofuel sector in Europe created during CRONUS project is provided in this file.

All the different biogenic effluent streams examined in CRONUS and their geographical distribution is analysed and it includes biogenic effluent streams from bioethanol, gasification, biomass combustion, biogas, biomethane and biochar production plants. The CRONUS database includes EU facilities for bioethanol production, biochar production, syngas production and biomass combustion plants and for each plant the following characterics are provided: Name, country, plant type, TRL level, feedstock biomass category, end-product, biogenic carbon dioxide emissions, captured carbon dioxide emissions, current management of biogenic gases in the plant (if known), CCU management (if known). CO2 emissions are either reported by the plant's company or calculated with a methodology proved in Deliverable D2.1.

The EBA 2023 report is considered an accurate and valid source for assessing the current state of biogas and biomethane production in Europe, as a one-to-one survey is not feasible due to the large number of biogas and biomethane installations in EU.

Deliverable 2.1 provides a detailed mallping of the plants of the database and good practice examples will be developed based on a multicriteria assessment of examples promoting biogenic gases valorisation, using properly assigned indicators and it can be found on CRONUS website.
