Description

“The Nkrombe Series” publication is the catalog created as accompanying the first virtual artistic exhibition realized within the research project focused on Communities and Artistic Participation in Hybrid Environments. The exhibition is placed at the GALERIA KONKRET AR.T gallery and curated by Bogna J. Gladden-Obidzinska from Warsaw, Poland, as part of her research in art appreciation in hybrid environments conducted within the CAPHE framework. It is the first presentation of artworks by Anne Mwiti from Nairobi, Kenya, from “The Nkrombe Series.”

The publication presents artworks from “The Nkrombe Series,” discussing the function of art in Africa, which is always made for a purpose and has a specific function. By means of the interview with the artist – Anne Mwiti, conducted by Bogna J. Gladden-Obidzinska, the publication goes deeper into the analysis of the meaning of the presented artworks, which have a decorative function but also represent objects that encapsulate evocative messages conveying traditional wisdom, aspects of life, and the environment, related to the Ameru culture in East Africa.
