Figure Animation for Noraz et al. (2025) ApJ
Description
Global Turbulent Solar Convection: a Numerical Path Investigating Key Force Balances in the context of the Convective Conundrum
Figures animations from Noraz et al. (2025, ApJ) [1].
This paper analyses and describes the dynamics from 2 numerical simulations of solar-like stars.
SBR97n035 exhibits a solar-like differential rotation profile, while SBR50n1 is an equivalent anti-solar rotating case (see the paper [1] for details).
Movies covers 17 s, which corresponds to 172 and 90 days in SBR97n035 and SBR50n1, respectively.

We name these movies with the notation Fig*_#_%.mp4, * referring to the Figure number in the paper [1], # referring to the physical quantity we plot ('Vr' or 'Omr', for the radial velocity or the radial vorticity, respectively), and % referring to the model we show.
- Fig. 5 shows radial velocity maps comparing the top of the simulation (r = 0.99 R⊙, outer sphere) and the middle of the convective zone (Rmid = 0.85 R⊙, inner sphere). Corresponding color-bars are fixed and correspond to the ones in [1].
- Fig. 7 shows North-pole views at the top of the simulation.
- Fig. 18 shows South-pole views at the top of the simulation.
- Fig. 19 shows North-pole views at the middle of the convection zone.
Data have been generated using the ASH code (Anelastic Spherical Harmonic, Clune et al. 1999 [2]; Miesch et al. 2000 [3]; Brun et al. 2004 [4], see detailed references below). Figures have been generated with the matplotlib [5] and pyvista [6] packages.
