Abstract (English)
Metadata is both produced and recalled throughout the entire lifetime of an investigation, from conception to publication. It is stored in a variety of systems and must be transferred seamlessly, not only along the workflow of the experiment but also to catalogue databases such as ICAT, and further to external reference logs such as DataCite. Despite the multiple and heterogeneous data sources and destinations, we need clear definitions and links between the different components, using Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) to make the metadata accessible and usable in other steps of the workflow. For this, it is necessary to build and curate a suitable IT system. This will likely incorporate an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) and a Sample Database (SampleDB). The proposed usage for battery cycling and tomography shown here will inform the plan to develop such elements and provides an insight into expected requirements.
