Description
Notebook written from both ends, with text running in opposite directions inward from each cover, inverted with respect to each other. In this transcript, the pages of the back section have been arranged in reverse order and placed after the pages of the front section. The front section includes numbered species lists of birds and moths, and notes about beetles, collected in Singapore and Melaka State, Peninsular Malaysia, during the first year (1854) of ARW's nearly eight year expedition to the region. Also included is a list of ferns collected between c. late 1854 and early 1856 in Sarawak, Borneo. The back section largely contains details of the numerous consignments of specimens ARW shipped to his agent Samuel Stevens in London, during the course of his expedition. These shipments were the subject of the following paper: Baker, D. B. 2001. Alfred Russel Wallace's record of his consignments to Samuel Stevens, 1854-1861. Zoologische Mededeelingen, 75: 254-341.
