Description
In this project, I use petitRadtrans (pRT), a publicly available radiative transfer code, to model the atmosphere of WASP-101b with a focus on potential molecules that could indicate the presence of life. pRT computes transmission and emission spectra of exoplanets and can be used for retrieval of exoplanetary atmospheres. By calculating and analyzing the abundance and transmission of different species at varying temperatures of the planet, I aim to identify possible signs of habitability or biological activity. Specifically, our theoretical modeling of WASP-101b reveals the presence of H2O, a key indicator of potential life-supporting conditions. This project provides valuable insights into the atmospheric characterization of WASP-101b, contributing to the broader goals of SETI by identifying exoplanets with conditions favorable for life.
