Description

Sphaeropteris elliptica (Copel.) Tryon (1970: 22).

Basionym:— Cyathea elliptica Copeland (1917: 51).

Type:— MALAYSIA. Sabah: Mt. Kinabalu, November 1915, Clemens 10859 (MICH, barcode 1190223!, lectotype designated by Holttum (1963: 146); isolectotype, UC211745!).

Synonym:— Cyathea holttumii Copeland (1935: 472).

Type: MALAYSIA. Sabah: Mt. Kinabalu, ca. 1100 m, 11 September 1933, Clemens 40308 (BM001048051!, lectotype, designated here; isolectotypes: K000721125!, L0051426!, MICH1287030!).

Synonym:— Cyathea subbipinnata Copeland (1935: 471).

Type:— MALAYSIA. Sabah: Mt. Kinabalu, ca. 1800 m, 22 November 1933, Clemens 50396 (MICH1190280!, lectotype, designated here; isolectotypes: BM001048050!, UC560304!).

Synonym:— Cyathea arjae Latiff (2015: 57), syn. nov. Type:— MALAYSIA. Sabah: Mt. Kinabalu, 1550 m, 7 June 1992, Jaman 4067 (holotype, UKMB, not seen; isotypes: K000721293!, K000721294!).

Distribution:—presently known only from Mt. Kinabalu, northern Borneo.
