Description
The National Approaches to the Protection of Dark and Quiet Skies report is the result of work undertaken by the International Astronomical Union Centre for the Protection of the Dark and Quiet Sky (IAU CPS), Policy Hub, Work Package 2 Working Group, National Analysis team between June 2023 and June 2024. It provides detailed information on existing regulatory frameworks for the protection of Dark and Quiet Skies (D&QS) for astronomical observation across 77 countries. The analysis for each country focuses on three key aspects: (1) the protection of dark skies; (2) the protection of quiet skies; and (3) satellite regulations. This framework offers a comprehensive overview of national regulations related to satellite interference with astronomical observations and highlights existing regulatory gaps.
The report serves as a supplementary document to the summary report of the IAU CPS, Policy Hub, Work Package 2 Working Group, entitled The National and International Landscape Concerning Dark and Quiet Skies.
