Description

Dorcadion (Cribridorcadion) mirabile Lazarev, 2024, sp. n.

Fig 1

Body robust, big and wide, about totally black; head with fine scattered punctation all over frons becoming denser and rougher on vertex; frons and vertex glabrous, that should be the result of abrasion; eyes small, about as wide as genae; antennae very dark, nearly black, reaching to about elytral middle, with slightly reddish basal joints; 1st antennal joint strongly elongated, but considerably shorter than 3rd and 4th combined, 4th joint much shorter than 3rd; prothorax strongly transverse, a little wider anteriorly, than posteriorly, about 1,2 times shorter than basal width; lateral thoracic tubercles very strong, conical, wide basally and sharpened apically; pronotum relatively smooth, distinctly convex along both sides of depressed central line, with rough sculpture along anterior margin and rough big dense punctation along posterior half; pronotal surface strongly rubbed and so partly glabrous and shining, but original dense velvety black pubescence is partially preserved, as well as ruins of white central stripe; scutellum moderately small triangular; elytra black with reddish posterior margin; very wide, about 1.4 times longer than middle width, regularly oval, relatively smooth, without longitudinal sculpture, with smooth obliterated humeral carinae, with thick and dense black dorsal pubescence; sutural white stripe was originally very wide; humeral white stripes were contrary rather narrow and probably interrupted at middle; external dorsal narrow white elytral stripe was very close to humeral stripe, and probably also interrupted near middle; internal white elytral stripes could be originally represented by small rudiments only; marginal elytral white stripe very narrow, limited by epipleurae; strong short oblique elytral setae absent; legs reddish, but very dark; 1st joint of posterior tarsi about as long as 2nd and 3rd combined; abdomen glabrous and shining, but it seems to be the result of strong abrasion; last abdominal tergite rounded with very small narrow emargination, last abdominal sternite flatly rounded; body length: 20.0 mm, body width (at elytral middle): 9.8 mm.

Differential diagnosis

It is very difficult to find a species close to D. mirabile sp. n. because of the poor condition of the holotype.  It could be D. bisignatum Jakovlev, 1899 (Figs 2-3) described from Artvin and widely distributed in the region. D. bisignatum has same velvety black dense body pubescence, same shape of lateral pronotal tubercles, similarly colored dark-red legs and antennae, similar contrast pronotal and elytral design, but D. mirabile sp. n. much bigger and wider, according to Plavilstshikov (1958: 199), in D. bisignatum body shape of females is about same as in males; sutural elytral stripe in D. mirabile sp. n. is extremely wide (narrow in D. bisignatum); white dorsal elytral stripes well developed anteriorly (anteriorly absent in D. bisignatum).

Remark

The lectotype of D. bisignatum Jakovlev, 1899 was designated by Lazarev (2011). So the label of the specimen in the collection of Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Saint-Petersburg): “LECTOTYPUS / Dorcadion bisignatum / Jakovlev, 1899 / A. Shapovalov des.” is not adequate.
