Description

This is a preprint of the "Common Provenance Framework for Multi-organizational Environments" and the supplementary material.

Abstract of the paper: "Reproducibility issues are widely reported in life sciences. As a response, scientific communities have called for enhanced provenance information documenting the complete research life cycle, starting from biological or environmental material acquisition and ending with translating research results into practice. In this work, we present Common Provenance Framework, an integrative framework for provenance information originating at distributed and heterogeneous sources. The framework enables querying of provenance information that is generated and managed independently by different organizations while providing mechanisms to preserve confidentiality and trustworthiness of information. This work builds on the W3C PROV and the Common Provenance Model (CPM), and serves as an open conceptual foundation for the ISO 23494 provenance standard series, which is currently under development. The framework is also relevant for the actual topics, such as Data Spaces or AI Act."
