Description

Puccinia hyalina Dietel

Type:— Lectotype is selected from specimens in TNS, used in original description by Dietel (1906) and designated here; II, III on Carex sp., Japan, Kochi Prefecture. Mt. Yanaze, October 1904, T. Yoshinaga TNS-F191541, MBT10021416. Paratypes in S (F32371-32374) and TNS (F114233,114697, 188500).

Description:—See Hiratsuka et al. (1992).

Hosts and distribution in Japan:— II, III on Carex siderosticta Hance (Hon, Shi, Kyu) (Ito 1950, Hiratsuka 1960, Hiratsuka et al. 1992).

Notes:—Uredinial stage of this species is morphologically different from Uredo hyalina Dietel (Ito & Homma 1938). This species has been reported from China and Taiwan (Tai 1979, Zhuang et al. 1998, Kuo & Chen 1999). Puccinia subhyalina Tranzschel has been reported on C. siderosticta from China and Russian Far East (Zhuang et al. 1998, Azbukina 2005). Taxonomic relationship of this species with P. hyalina needs to be confirmed.
