Description
Puccinia dioicae var. extensicola (Plowr.) D.M. Hend.
Basionym:— Puccinia extensicola Plowr.
Type:— Holotype in BPI (066074).
Description:—See description of P. extensicola by Hiratsuka et al. (1992).
Hosts and distribution in Japan:—0, I on Solidago altissima L. (Hon), S. virgaurea L. (Hon); II, III on Carex stipata Muhl. ex Willd. (Hok) (Ito 1950, Hiratsuka 1960, Hiratsuka et al. 1992).
Notes:— Puccinia dioicae Magnus has been reported as a complex of species, and also reported its many varieties (Henderson 1961). Taxonomic relationship of this species with P. extensicola is still obscure. Therefore, taxonomic revision of this group of species is required. Spermogonial and aecial stages of this species have been reported on many species of Asteraceae. Hiratsuka et al. (1992) recorded these stages on species of Solidago, but its occurrence should be confirmed. This species is widely distributed in the world including China and Russian Far East (Ito 1950, Tai 1979, Zhuang et al. 1998, Azbukina 2005).
