PRESERVE Final Event: KEY RESULTS

Description

The PRESERVE EU-funded project celebrated its achievements during its final event in Berlin on 12 December. During the event, the project's key results were presented and are now collated in this presentation:

  • Whey protein - a biobased oxygen barrier, Kristina Eißenberger (ASU) 

  • A new generation of PHA based food packaging, Willem Uyttendaele (Centexbel) 

  • Innovative biotechnological strategies for recycling biodegradable materials, Steven Verstichel (Normec OWS) 

  • Material separation and recycling of multilayer films for packaging applications, Nicolò Fortunati(Planet Bioplastics)

  • Upscaling bio-based solutions and its challenges, Ana Guerra (Südpack) 

  • Sustainability and Circularity of biobased packaging: conclusions, Carla Bartolomé/ Matteo Maccanti (ITENE/NTT) 

At the event, Estela López-Hermoso (European Bioplastics) unveiled as well the PRESERVE Innovation Roadmap

The importnce of cirucularity, sustainability and poilcy developemnts were discussed in a roudntable with Daniele spinelli (NTT) and Teresa Calvo (ITENE) together with Estela López-Hermoso, whereas the future of sustainable packaging from a a market, policy and research perspective where discussed by Marc Vetterli (V-ZUG), Marc Meijers (denimX), Kirstina Eißenberger, PRESERVE´s scientific coordinator (ASU) and Matthias Schägler (Südpack).

Finally, a last session focused on synergies in action and saw the presntations of 4 EU funded projects: two from the same called as PRESERVE, UppET and Uplift, and two with a borader perspective on biobased materials and applications: BioRadar and Bio4Human: https://zenodo.org/records/14498997
