Description
PolyVent is an open source mechanical ventilator for research and education. An Arduino controls a proportional valve which precisely gates pressure and flow from a mixing chamber fed by pressurized oxygen and medical air into the airway. Solenoid valves control mixing and the patient inflation. Targeting researchers and instructors, control is through a command-line interface over the serial port. Instrumentation is provided by the [VentMon](https://github.com/PubInv/ventmon-ventilator-inline-test-monitor), a separate spirometer that is IoT enabled, providing an easy classroom or geodistributed research environment. A ``cake-dome'' design allows it to operate with
or without a transparent cover in place for easy troubleshooting and instruction. An open footprint optimizes engineering change rather than size.
Electronics are packaged into cards on a standardized back plane allowing functionality to be extended by the addition of new cards. The mahcine is driven by the VentOS software designed to be a universal
modifiable research platform. The PolyVent is intended to be the center of an open source human respiration research and education ecosystem and to be a starting point for open source medical ventilator designs.
The active repo for the PolyVent can be found here.
