Open Access Journals from ROAD and Their Presence in Scopus, Web of Science, DOAJ, Sherpa, OpenAlex, and Top Factor (2023)

Abstract

This dataset provides information on Open Access (OA) journals listed in the ROAD (Directory of Open Access Scholarly Resources) and their presence in various indexing and reference databases, including Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), DOAJ, Sherpa, OpenAlex, and Top Factor. The data support analyses of the accessibility and indexing of OA journals across multiple scholarly platforms.

Data Structure

The dataset includes the following columns:

• leader: Unique identifier for the journal (e.g., ISSN or eISSN).
• iso3_code: ISO 3 code representing the country of the journal's publisher.
• issn: ISSN/EISSN identifier for the journal.
• field_981_a: The discipline of the journal.
• in_scopus: Binary flag (0/1) indicating whether the journal is indexed in Scopus.
• in_wos: Binary flag (0/1) indicating whether the journal is indexed in Web of Science (WoS).
• in_doaj: Binary flag (0/1) indicating whether the journal is listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
• in_sherpa: Binary flag (0/1) indicating whether the journal is listed in Sherpa Romeo.
• in_openalex: Binary flag (0/1) indicating whether the journal is listed in OpenAlex.
• in_top_factor: Binary flag (0/1) indicating whether the journal is listed in Top Factor.
• in_road: Binary flag (0/1) indicating whether the journal is listed in ROAD.
• status: The operational status of the journal (active/inactive).

Data Sources

The dataset was compiled in 2023 using the following sources:
