Utilising the flexible simulation software REvoSim for advanced evolutionary and ecological modelling

The study of ecological trends and the mechanisms which drive them are pivotal for advancing our understanding of biodiversity and ecosystem functions. While traditional field studies are invaluable, they often face limitations due to the complexity and scale of natural systems. Computational models, such as REvoSim, offer a versatile platform for simulating ecological interactions and evolutionary trajectories, with exceptional flexibility in parameter manipulation. This allows for the detailed modulation of environmental conditions, behaviours of the digital organisms, and their interactions.
This poster aims to demonstrate how REvoSim can be utilised to replicate real-world ecological trends and delve into the driving forces behind these patterns. The research specifically explored the impact of predation on species diversity across varying levels of environmental heterogeneity. The results of the simulation supported empirical data produced in field studies and further investigation aimed to explain why this phenomena occurs.
By highlighting the capabilities of this software, this poster aims to showcase REvoSim's potential as a powerful tool for ecological and evolutionary research, offering the ability to test hypotheses and predict outcomes in a controlled yet dynamic digital system.
