Description
Addressing climate change requires accelerating the development of sustainable alternatives to energy- and water-intensive technologies, particularly for rapidly growing infrastructure like datacenters and cloud. This paper presents a novel Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study examining the impacts of advanced cooling technologies on cloud infrastructure, from virtual machines to server architecture, datacenter buildings, and the grid. LCA is critical for early-stage design decisions, enhancing sustainability outcomes alongside feasibility and cost analysis.
These LCA tools are referenced in the manuscript "Using Life Cycle Assessment to drive innovation for a sustainable and cool cloud". They can be used to replicate findings in the study and perform new modelling experiments:
